David- nice, kind, likes Tally, hard working, and kind of the Smoke leader.

Find a picture to represent what you think the smoke looks like and post it on your blog with an explanation of why you chose it.
I chose this pic, because the book says the outside of the Smoke  is tangly.

I chose this one, because it reminds me of the inside of the Smoke.
I chose this one, because it reminds me of the road to the smoke, not as tangly as the first one, but it's still tangly.

List the important events in chronolgical order.

Respond to the following quote

"...Tally was stuck out here in the wild forever. Ugly for life. Her only way home was to betray her friend." If I were Tally, I would not even have to think about it. A promise is a promise, she promised Shay she wouldn't tell anyone where she went, she already broke that promise. The least she can do to make up for what she did is to not break another promise. The choice is obvious, she shoudn't betray Shay.

What do you think the flying machine was? Who was in it? Make a prediction.

Have you ever made yourself do something that you didn't want to because you knew you had to?

Predict what you think will happen next.

Invent a dried food you would take with you on your journey if you were Tally. What would it be? How would you make it? I would take Chipot,(a food with chicken and potatos), Turkam,(a food with turkey and ham), Begg,(a food with bacon and eggs)

Make a list of things you would miss about your home if you were forced to leave it as Tally was. I would miss my family, my puppy, my friends, my teachers, my home, my school etc...

Why do you think Tally ultimately decides to figure out where Shay is? She is concerned for her friend, and wants to make sure she is ok. She wants to know what the "Smoke" is, and where her friend is living, and how she is living.

Give a chronological list of important events that happened in the chapter.

Why do you think Peris comes back? Support your answer with textual evidence. I think he wants to know why she isn't pretty, and if she ever will be. Also, I think he wants to find out what's going on, and also, he wants to know the truth behind the rumor.

Respond to the following. "Everywhere she went eyes looked away. But is was the most visible she'd ever felt. Even though no one will talk to her, Tally knows everyone is looking at her. They wonder why she didn't have the operation on time, if she did a trick so bad they wouldn't turn her pretty. Also I think Tally was being paranoid, I think she felt like everyone could see through her. When I'm embarassed I feel like everyone is looking at me, but they are really carrying out their normal activities.

Summerize the chapter highlighting the events in chronological order.

Respond to the following quote, what does it mean to you? "We don't have to look like everyone else, Tally, and act like everyone else. We've got a choice. We can grow up any way we want." I think Shay is right! You don't have to be like everyone else. There is nothing wrong with looking, talking, acting, and thinking, differently than everyone else. The way you talk, look, act, and think, makes you, YOU!!!!!!

Two fights were presented in this chapter. Compare and Contrast both of them. List their similarties and differences. Why did each fight take place? What was the outcome of each one?(no less than one paragrph)

What does the following quote from the chapter tell you about the city? "That was one thing about being outside the city: It made all that nature stuff they taught in school seem alot more useful. She remembered now how rainwater fell on the mountains and soaked into the ground..." The city is technology powered. The people in the city don't have to know about nature, or money, or anything, it's just play, and have fun. Without the city the people wouldn't be able to survive, they would be helpless.

Write a one paragraph summary of the chapter. Tell the important events in chronological order.

Find two similes in this chapter and quote them, as well as the page number. "Every building sported jagged spurs of metal sticking from the broken walls, like bones jutting from a long dead animal."(pg.62)
"The Rusties didn't put their factories underground, and they all worked together like bees in a hive, instead of at home."(pg.62)

In this chapter Tally says,"I kind of like being fooled about some things." Do you agree with Tally, or would you rather know the reality behind everything? Why? I would rather know. I don't want to live in some fantasy world, full of lies. I don't think it's fair that nobody tell them the way things work, or what happened to the Rusties.

Describe the "Rusty Ruins". What are they? What happened during this time period?  The "Rusty Ruins" is a place where "Rusties" lived. They worked in buildings, "like bees in a hive". Something tried to destroy the "Rusties". In the book it talks about flames and fire, that destroyed the city. The "Rusty Ruins" was like our time period. They burned trees, for wood, and burned oil for fuel. They had roller coasters, and cars, and other stuff like that.
Define Peer Pressure. Think of a time when it happened to you, or someone you know and explain it in a paragraph. One time I was spending the night at my friend's house. Everyone there wanted to watch a movie, I knew my parents wouldn't approve. I didn't want to disobey my parents, but I was to embarassed to tell them I couldn't watch that movie. I finally gathered up the courage to ask my friend if we could watch another movie. All of my friend's friends wanted to watch the movie, and she didn't want to disappoint them or me. She finally said,"Your parents will never know you watched this movie." I called my mom to pick me up, because I had no intention of watching that movie, and I felt uncomfortable waiting in the other room for my friends to finish it. My mom said she was proud of me for doing the right thing.

Reflect on the following quotes.

"Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun."... "This game is designed to make us hate ourselves."
This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!! What kind of a sick minded person would design a game to make people feel ugly. Why is every person you see in magizines airbrushed, to make us feel fat, and because of this people are under eating, and having health problems, why do people want some people to starve themselves, so they can look like the air brushed model like the magazines? Why do people make us think we can't be beautiful? Is it so they can make LOTS of MONEY!!!!!!!!!!

"Everyone judged everyone else based on their appeatance. People who were taller got better jobs... people killed one another over stuff like different skin color."( reffering to when everyone was ugly)
If people believed that you didn't have to look like models, that they could be different, and still beautiful in their own way we wouldn't have this problem. In the Cival War people fought about skin color. People with white skin thougt they were better than people with black skin. People fighting over looks, just comes down to they are to prideful, hot-headed, and self-centered JERKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"It's the only way to make people equal."(becoming pretty)
If there was a way to make everybody equal, it would be pointless. If people would not be prideful, hot- headed, self-centered JERKS, we wouldn't have this problem. If they did have a way to make people equal it would defeat the purpose of genes, and you would look like everyone else, you would not be unique. You would not be YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think of another book, movie,etc... in which people use hover boards. How are thay used? If possiblepost a video.

Why do you think new pretties don't come back to uglyville to visit? Describe physical, and mental transformations to a new pretty. I think in the operation they mess with their brains, to make them think they're better than everybody else. Also because they don't want uglies to know what life is like on the other side, so they make the new pretties not want to go back. They think they're beautiful, and they are hot headed, and think they are to good for anybody that doesn't look like them. I think when they turn into to a middle pretty,(like Tally's parents) they change there brain into thinking it's ok to go back and have kids, but they have to raise them to think being pretty is the right thing to do. Think about it, if your mom says something is the right thing you trust her and obey. If the parents weren't forced to tell their kids, some might think that becoming pretty was not worth the pain, or it was ridiculous.
